Soft Machine founding member and keyboard player Mike Ratledge has died aged 81, after a short illness. Mike was an enigmatic figure of the Canterbury scene.
Mike was the original composer of Backwards, part of Soft Machine’s Slightly All The Time.
Caravan’s first version of Backwards appeared in the L’Auberge du Sanglier suite, on the For Girls Who Grow Plump in the NIght studio album.
Their first live recording was on Caravan and the New Symphonia, as part of A Hunting We Shall Go.
