Jimmy Hastings RIP

It is with great sadness to let you know that the great Jimmy Hastings has passed away .

Jimmy was always  known as the fifth member of Caravan .

He performed Sax and flute on numerous Albums and played live with the band over the last 50+ years .when his schedule allowed .

Jimmy was a very accomplished musician as well as being a Proffessor Of Saxaphones for the Royal Marines School of Music .in Portsmouth

Pye , his brother dubbed him there ‘One take wonder ‘for his amazing ability .

Jimmy also played on a number of Canterbury related bands . His flute  solo on National Heath’s Binoculars being a great example.

Jimmy was a wonderful kind person .

RIP Jimmy . We will miss you -you were one of the greats…

 

Cambridge Rock Festival -cancelled

We are sorry to report that unfortunately the Cambridge Rock Festival has been. Cancelled this year .

The band who have a long affiliation to this great festival were looking forward to playing on the Saturday night . Licensing difficulties is the reason cited for the lat minute cancellation. We wish Dave Roberts and his team our best . -hopefully the festival will be back on again in 2024

 

Maurice Haylett 1945-2023 RIP

The band are sad to announce the death of  Maurice  ‘The Hat’Haylett  after a short battle with cancer,

Maurice was an integral part of the Caravan family since 1970 .He was their sound engineer , tour manager ,  driver , and friend .The band wrote a song about him in 1970 titled “A day in the life of Maurice Haylett.” . ‘The little man who rang/And danced while he sang’

Maurice was a very special person and we are thinking of his family during this time.

Maurice -you will be  missed , but not forgotten

Who Do You Think We Are?

37 disc deluxe box set

The ultimate tribute to the legendary Canterbury band

Who Do You Think We Are? is the ultimate tribute to the ultimate Canterbury band. This deluxe box set runs to a staggering 37 discs. All the official Caravan albums – studio and live recordings among them – are joined by eleven discs of previously unreleased live performances. A Blu-ray includes remixer extraordinaire Steven Wilson’s 5.1 surround sound mix of the classic In the Land of Grey and Pink album. In addition, a DVD includes vintage European TV performances from 1971 – 1981 (London Marquee, German TV’s ‘Swing In’, Bataclan , Paris & French TV show Pop 2).

The lavish packaging of the set reflects the band’s stature. A hardback coffee table book features rare Caravan photos and memorabilia, and a full discography. A second Fan Club book assembles historic press articles from across the band’s career, alongside a new interview with founder member Pye Hastings. Every copy of the box includes individually signed photo by the three surviving members of the original Caravan line-up: Pye Hastings, Richard Sinclair and David Sinclair. The celebration continues with a selection of memorabilia: a Caravan-centric map of Canterbury; a specially commissioned Caravan family tree poster, charting their long and circuitous progress; and two replica 1970s gig posters.

UK Tour Autumn 2022 . 13 Dates announced!

The band are delighted to be ‘treading the boards’ again  with a 13 date UK tour this October .

The Tour Starts in Brighton on 7th October and finishes in  Canterbury  on 26th October .

Tickets are available via the Gig Cartel  or via the link shown on the relevant event .

Some  of the venues are a repeat of their successful UK

tour last year plus extra venues eg Glasgow, Liverpool, Buxton, Canterbury .

The band are very excited to be on the road again later this month. Following the postponement of the last three dates of their successful October tour, these three dates have been rescheduled together with three extra dates .

Last Three Gigs of UK October 2021 Tour Postponed

Sadly , due to two members of the band testing positive for Covid the band have been forced to pull out of the last three gigs . The  Gigs at Bristol on Wednesday 27, , Exeter on Thursday28th , and Dover on Friday 29th are all postponed .

It is envisaged that the gigs will be rescheduled for early next year.

The band apologise to  those that have already bought tickets and they are really disappointed having to postpone these last three dates .

many thanks for your phenomenal  support on the tour which the band have really enjoyed playing live again .

Also many thanks to those who have bout the new CD . The Vinyl version will be released in November .
